The admissions process for Elon is becoming less stringent,May 18 2015Computer Science
The admissions process for Elon is becoming less stringent, and focuses less now on the academics you've completed in high school than it did in the past. This is evidenced in the admissions rate on Google, and through several school newspaper articles. Also, minorities are granted preferential treatment by the admissions department through diversity-related scholarship programs to attract minorities. This is because of the discrepancy of a diverse population, and because of this, be wary of joining the campus if you are a minority. You may find it hard to conform to the lifestyle that the majority of the students are a part of.

IF you are interested, and embrace the lifestyle of a typical Elon student, then congrats. You're on the track to joining one of the least statistically economically diverse universities in the world. A few tips of advice:

1. Network now and network fast. There are several social networking opportunities for the kids who have already been accepted. The Elon class facebook page is a great resource. Make a witty facebook post on the page and message the people who comment on it. You'll grow your network quickly and, once you get to campus, you'll have people to go meet up with.

2. Keep in mind that the kids on this page are just as nervous as you are by starting anew in life. It's very easy to get to know people and message them randomly knowing this! The people are very accepting and open to conversation at the beginning. Do it quickly though, because once the school year begins and a few weeks pass, friend groups will develop very quickly.

3. Try and determine your major early, rather than later. Elon's major requirements, since it is a liberal arts college, will make you take classes that aren't necessarily related to your major. If you don't have an idea of what you want to do, knock out the prerequisites before going into classes specific to a particular major.

4. Want to join a fraternity? Network now. Elon is renowned for having an exclusive social scene around campus, no matter how much Elon's adminstration advertises that it has an inclusive community. Not every social group will make you feel like you bELONg. Join clubs and organizations, hang out with people that live on your hall, and talk with people in classes. Elon generally isn't a place for shy or socially inept people.
